The Light Within Us

The light within us is not only a symbol of what we possess, but above all of what we can give to another.

Light Within Us is an artistic interpretation of the idea of protection, hope and compassion traditionally associated with Saint Luke, the patron of physicians. His legacy is transformed into a contemporary symbol — a figure standing between the patient and the one who heals.

Its purpose is to bring light precisely where, at a given moment, it is missing.

To the patient, it may bring hope, calm and courage.

To the physician, it may bring strength, energy and a reminder of the meaning behind their work.

The light hidden within the figure is more than physical light. It is a symbol of strength, humanity, compassion and positive energy — something people can give to one another.

Inner strength does not always have to arise within us on its own. It can be passed from one person to another.

Sometimes a physician gives it to a patient.

Sometimes a patient, through trust and determination, gives it back to the physician.

And sometimes all it takes is the presence of someone who reminds us that the light within us is still there.
